MISSISSAUGA, June 17, 2026 – SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP, Canadian Egg Technologies (CET) and MatrixSpec Solutions are pleased to announce a strategic partnership to commercialize a Canadian-developed in-ovo egg sexing system that represents the earliest and most practical solution of its kind available on the market. The strategic partnership will support a global commercial launch late this year or early 2027.
The hyperspectral imaging technology enables accurate, non-destructive sex determination as early as the fourth day of incubation — earlier than any other technology currently available on the market. The system is hatchery-validated, cost-effective and designed to scale across operations of all sizes, from independent hatcheries to large facilities.
"Egg sexing technology is one of the most significant advances in hatchery management in a generation, and this technology sets the benchmark," said Michael S. Midskov, Group CEO, SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP. "Bringing this to market through a partnership that combines Canadian innovation with SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP's global infrastructure is exactly the kind of collaboration that moves the industry forward."
"This technology was built from the ground up to be practical — not just scientifically impressive, but deployable for hatcheries everywhere," said Dr. Michael Ngadi, CEO of MatrixSpec Solutions. "Partnering with SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP and Canadian egg farmers gives us the platform to make that vision a global reality."
"We are thrilled to be working with SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP, who are a world leader in egg handling and automation systems," said Roger Pelissero and Scott Helps, Co-Chairs of CET. "Their deep knowledge of hatchery systems and egg supply chains, combined with their global reach, will ensure that this transformative solution will be available to hatcheries worldwide, regardless of size," adds Helps.
"MatrixSpec's role in this partnership is to ensure the underlying technology is as robust and future-proof as the commercial ambition behind it," said Dr. Michael Ngadi, CEO of MatrixSpec Solutions. Together with CET, MatrixSpec has developed a practical and scalable solution designed to integrate seamlessly into existing processes by leveraging equipment already commonly found in hatcheries around the world. This collaboration with SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP will accelerate our development of pre-incubation sex identification and bring best-in-class technology to every hatchery globally.
Why It Matters
By enabling accurate in-ovo sex determination as early as day four of incubation, this hyperspectral technology allows hatcheries to act early, which protects both the hatchability and integrity of the egg. This patented solution is a transformative breakthrough for the global egg industry and within reach of mainstream adoption — it is non-invasive, cost-effective and designed around the equipment and workflows hatcheries already operate.
For farmers, the benefits extend well beyond hatchability. Earlier determination means more incubator capacity dedicated to viable female eggs and a measurable reduction in resource consumption across the hatch cycle. For the industry as a whole, it means a credible, scalable solution that addresses a complex area of our supply chain and supports advancements in animal care.
